  Frequently Asked Questions
What is the registration process?

Siblings of St. Timothy's Preschool students and parishioners of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church have advance registration during December.

General registration will begin January 4, 2010. We invite interested parents to call the church office at (650) 967-4724 to arrange for a tour. It is recommended that each child and parent visit the facility, discuss school philosophies, the child's needs, and preschool readiness. It is the perfect time for the child to interact with St. Timothy's children and play.

Each applicant must fill out a registration form, and submit the registration fee to hold a place for their child.

Is the registration fee refundable if my child leaves during the school year?

No, the registration fee is non-refundable.

How is the monthly tuition calculated?

Tuition is established as an annual fee divided into ten equal payments for the convenience of the parents. December, 1 two-week month, and March, typically a five-week month, have the same monthly tuition. June's tuition is prepaid in the registration fee. Tuition is payable in advance each month and can be paid monthly, quarterly, or annually.

Does my child need to be toilet trained to enroll?

No. A child in the process of learning to use the toilet must be in diapers or pull-ups. However, if a child soils his or her diaper, a parent or assigned guardian must come to school and change the diaper. We don't have the facilities mandated by Community Care Licensing to change soiled diapers. We have clothes at school to use in the case a trained child has a urine accident.

How do you deal with misbehaving children?

We give a clear definition of appropriate behavior and inappropriate behavior: for example, "This is a sharing school and a playing school, not a fighting school." Positive reinforcement in the form of verbal praise is used to encourage appropriate behavior. For a child with inappropriate behavior, we teach self-expression, problem-solving and conflict-resolution techniques. Redirection to a new activity away from the problem area is used only after successive corrections of inappropriate behavior in a single day. Teachers are consistent in establishing boundaries, setting limits, carefully listening to a child's perspective, and watching when problems begin to arise.

If a child bites, the parent will be notified and asked to immediately take the child home. The child may return the next school day.

May I bring my child to school is he or she has just a "little" cold?

No. We ask that children remain at home for the duration of the cold, particularly at the height of contagion when symptoms first appear. Upon arrival each class day, all children will be evaluated by staff regarding their wellness to attend school.

Is St. Timothy's a Roman Catholic school and is there religious instruction?

No, St. Timothy's Preschool is part of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. We encourage peaceful resolution of problems. We teach children to respect peers, adults, and all God's creatures. We say a God-based blessing at snack time each day. The Monday, Wednesday, Friday 4s class has chapel once a month, enjoying non-denominational books and songs.

Who provides snacks each day?

The school provides snacks including crackers, cereals, fruit, and fruit juice. Cooking projects are an important part of the curriculum. On cooking days, we might have soup, won tons, different sweet and whole-grain breads, and healthy cookies. Party days associated with holidays include treats brought from parents. We encourage healthy treats and limit sweets on these party days.

If your child has allergies, please discuss food options with the Director.

How will I know if my child is ready for Kindergarten?

We do a Kindergarten Readiness Evaluation in March, based on tasks and skills tested in January and February. Parents have an opportunity to talk with teachers, either formally or informally, on a daily basis.
